Despite the tense relations between the two countries, Turkey will not introduce a visa regime for Russia. This was stated today in the Turkish Embassy in Moscow. Experts believe that such a decision was taken due to the unwillingness of Turkey to finally lose Russian tourists.
Also, according to “RIA Novosti”, Turkey considers Russian people as a friendly nation.
The suspension of the visa free regime with Turkey was initiated by the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on November 27 after negotiations with the Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem. He explained this decision in such a way that “Russia is very, very concerned about the increase of terrorist threats in the Turkish Republic. This is directly related to the security of the Russian Federation, our citizens. Turkey plays a key role in the traffic of terrorists in different directions. These are not far-fetched threats.”
Such a measure will be one of many in a series of restrictions that Russia is going to impose on Turkey in connection with the attack on the Russian plane. The decision to suspend a visa-free regime with Turkey will be enacted January 1, 2016.
