If the EU cannot agree on the distribution of refugees, the Schengen agreement can be questioned, said German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
Earlier the Ministry of internal Affairs of Germany said that this year Germany waits for the arrival of up to 800 thousand refugees and migrants, that is four times more than in 2014. The German government has repeatedly stated that the EU should develop quota system for the distribution of refugees in all countries, because Germany is not able to host so large numbers of refugees.
The EU leaders at the summit in June rejected the European Commission’s scheme of quotas for the replacement and resettlement in the EU of illegal migrants and refugees from Africa and the Middle East. Interior Ministers were instructed to participate in the program on a voluntary basis.
