Benjamin Netanyahu feeling the chill from his White House visit

Published on

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to the White House on April 7 did not go as he’d hoped.

• US President Donald Trump was adamant about the tariffs he had set at 17% (now reduced to 10%).

• While Israel hoped to be able to destroy Iran after the Palestinian Territories, Lebanon and Syria, President Trump announced negotiations with Tehran.

• While Tel Aviv hoped for Washington’s support against Ankara in Syria, President Trump said: “I have a good relationship with a man named Erdogan. Have you heard of him? It turns out that I like him and he likes me.” Very much in the mood, he ironically quipped: “I said to Erdogan, ’Congratulations, you have done what no one has been able to do in 2,000 years. You have taken control of Syria.” “He’s a tough guy. He’s very smart and he did something that no one could do.”

While “revisionist Zionists” hope to exploit U.S. ambitions to expel all Palestinians from Palestine, President Trump has been vague as can be, saying “that the war will end at some point, but not in the too distant future.”
