German human rights activists have held a pro-immigration rally near the Bulgarian-Turkish border fence to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. The activists scuffled with Bulgarian border guards as they prevented them from approaching the fence in the village of Golyam Dervent. The group attempted to breach the borders of the European Union to draw parallels between the EU’s border control measures and the Berlin Wall. Activists carried tools with which they planned to cut through the border fence. The event aimed to attract attention to the plight of refugees trying to enter the European Union.
