The Eastern Economic Forum was created and was first held in 2015 by the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation. Its goal is to promote the accelerated economic development of the Far East and the expansion of international cooperation. And in a few years, the Forum has become the largest international platform for discussing key issues of the global economy, regional integration, the development of new industries and technologies, as well as global challenges facing Russia and other countries. In 2018, more than 6 thousand participants from 60 countries of the world, 1357 representatives from 443 mass media were registered at the forum. 220 agreements totaling 3 trillion 108 billion rubles were signed.

Forum events are usually held in the form of panel sessions, round tables, debates, business meetings and business dialogs with leading partner countries in the Asia-Pacific region and with ASEAN, a key integration group of Southeast Asian countries.

In 2019, the Forum will present the results of a new economic policy, as well as plans and a further vision for the development of the Far East for 2025–2035. More than a dozen services for investors will be presented to visitors on a single platform, as well as a presentation area for the sectors of the economy of the Far Eastern regions with an assessment of their investment potential.
