Yemeni Forces Strike Saudi Mercenary Positions, Destroy US Military Equipment

Published on

The Yemeni military media has released footage of Yemeni forces in Hodeidah province attacking Saudi mercenary positions and destroying US military equipment.

The US-backed Saudi-led coalition launched their offensive to take Hodeidah province and port from indigenous Yemeni forces in June of this year. Dubbed “Golden Victory,” the operation has been anything but victorious for the coalition.

Golden Victory has mostly consisted of Saudi warplanes carpet bombing civilian areas of Hodeidah while Yemeni Ansarullah forces fend off their attempts at ground advances.

The operation has also exasperated the already dire humanitarian situation. Hodeidah, already a poor province, is one of Yemen’s densest urban areas. According to the United Nations, 22 million of Yemen’s 29 million people require immediate humanitarian aid to survive — children, pregnant women, the elderly, the injured, and those with chronic illnesses are most at risk.

The US-enforced and Saudi-imposed blockade of Yemen severely restricts all land, air, and sea imports, exports, and the flow of movement which has effectively turned the impoverished country into an open-air prison. The lack of clean water compounded by the coalition’s airstrikes on water treatment facilities has triggered a globally unprecedented cholera epidemic.

Hodeidah is Yemen’s last remaining port for receiving shipments of goods and aid after the cargo has cleared both Saudi and UN inspections in neighboring Djibouti. A Saudi or Emirati occupation of Hodeidah port would cut off Yemen’s last access point to the world.

Yemeni Ansarullah forces fought back Saudi-backed mercenaries in the Hodeidah town of al-Jabalia. The fighters struck mercenaries with a missile before raiding equipment and burning what appears to be a US-made Oshkosh M-ATV.
