Russian palaeontologists discovered an ancient whale skeleton while planning infrastructure for the Crimean bridge in Kerch Peninsula, as shown in footage filmed on Friday.
According to one of the researchers, representative from the local Zoological Museum Dmitri Startsev, these fossils “have been hidden for 10 million years.” Such animals used to inhabit the Sarmat Sea, which used to cover the Kerch peninsula millions of years ago.
The fossil lacks a skull, but the whole spine has survived intact.
Planning for the road from the Crimean Bridge has been postponed until scientists have finished surveying the area.
