Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament recommended to repeal visas for citizens of Ukraine, Georgia and Kosovo. These countries have made great progress in fulfilling the technical conditions for the introduction of a visa-free regime with the European Union, according to the message on Thursday, July 7, of the Parliament’s website.

As Deputy of the European Parliament and rapporteur for Ukraine, Jacek Saryusz-Wolski, stated in his Twitter that the Committee adopted by majority vote the proposal for the introduction of a visa-free regime for Ukraine.

According to Jacek Saryusz-Wolski, the Ukraine, undoubtedly, has successfully fulfilled all criteria required for granting a visa-free regime as soon as possible. The Latvian member of the European Parliament and rapporteur for Georgia, Andrey Mamykin, stressed that “the Georgian government and society did great job, and now they have to see results.”

Simplification and liberalization of the visa regime for these countries is “an important instrument of foreign and security policy of the EU, as well as a way to improve human contacts and strengthening relations with the EU”, noted on the website of the European Parliament.

Next step is to vote on the abolition of visas for Ukraine, Georgia, and Kosovos in the European Parliament Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs at the end of these summer holidays.

Earlier, European Parliament President Martin Schulz said that Brexit would not affect the readiness of the EU to introduce visa-free regime for Ukrainian citizens.
