Unprecedented dismissal of the Baltic fleet command in recent history of Russia shows that increasing demands are applied to commanders of the Russian Armed forces. This opinion was expressed by the chief editor of the magazine “National Defense”, a member of the Public Council of the Russian Defense Ministry Igor Korotchenko.
Korotchenko notes that nowadays Russia is in difficult political situation: it is under a massive political and military pressure from the United States and NATO. In the course of numerous exercises, NATO works out different variants of warfare against Russia. In this regard, the combat readiness of the army, the ability of making quick decisions, and level of professional come to the fore.
“Those who can’t meet these requirements should leave,” Korotchenko said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
Yesterday the Minister of Defence of Russia, Sergey Shoigu, suspended the commander of the Baltic fleet, Viktor Kravchuk, and the chief of staff of the fleet, Sergey Popov.
The reason was a significant lapse in military training and the distortion in the reports of the real state of affairs.
Later, the Defense Ministry reported that the reason for the dismissal of the leadership was serious violations found in combat training of troops. Furthermore, the command didn’t care enough about its subordinates and did not take any measures to improve the conditions of their deployment.
