Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan apologized to Russian President Vladimir Putin for the death of Russian pilot of Su-24, according to the Press Secretary of the Russian President, Dmitry Peskov.
“The President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin received a message from Turkish President in which the Turkish leader expressed his interest in resolving the situation associated with the death of a Russian military plane,” Kremlin’s representative reports.
According to him, “the head of Turkey expressed his sympathy and deep condolences to the relatives of the dead Russian pilot in his message”.
November 24, 2015, Turkish Air Force shot down the Russian war plane Su-24 in the Syrian sky. Russian pilot, Oleg Peshkov, was killed by terrorists when he parachuted down after catapulting. According to the official statement of Ankara, the Russian plane violated Turkish airspace near the Syrian border. Russian Ministry of Defense stated that aircraft was over the Syrian territory and there was no violation of Turkish airspace.
After that, Putin warned that attack on the Russian pilot would have serious consequences for bilateral relations of two countries. November 28, he signed a decree “On measures to ensure national security of the Russian Federation and the protection of citizens from criminal and other unlawful acts, as well as application of special economic measures against the Republic of Turkey”.
Russian pilot Oleg Peshkov was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Russia.
