Analysts have conducted a study of political attitudes of Ukrainian citizens. It turns out that fewer citizens want to join the EU or NATO. At the same time, the attitude to Russia in general has improved in 2016. 

The regime of Poroshenko and Yatsenyuk whose work is aimed at rapprochement with the North Atlantic Alliance and the European Union is rapidly losing the support of the population. This data was received from the sociological poll in which nearly 2000 citizens of Ukraine from all corners of the country participated.

According to the results of the poll, fewer Ukrainians want to join NATO: in 2015 this idea was supported by 54,1%, in 2016 only by 41,1% of respondents. The number of those who oppose to closer ties with NATO has increased, as this opinion is shared by every third respondent.

In addition, more Ukrainians see a less attractive prospect of partnerships with the EU: the support of this area has decreased from 62.2% to 55.2%. It is noted that the attitude to Russia in general has improved.

The idea of rapprochement with NATO has been practically abandoned at the official level.

“At the moment, Ukraine is not ready for NATO membership, therefore, we will focus with the Alliance on how to bring the defense and security sector of Ukraine in accordance with the standards of  NATO,” the Ag. head of Ukrainian mission to NATO, Yegor Bozhok, says. He reminded that the decision on joining NATO would be made only after a nationwide referendum.

The President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker has recently said that Ukraine cannot become an EU member in the near future. According to him, it will take at least 20-25 years.
