Turkey did not allow NATO ships to enter into its waters in the Aegean sea. The mission of the Alliance is the interception of boats with illegal migrants heading from Turkey to Greece and then to other European countries. That was reported by GreekReporter with a reference to Agence France-Presse.
This information was confirmed by several diplomatic sources in Brussels. According to one of them, the position of Ankara towards the mission of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization was known from the very beginning. Turkey insists that the commander of the NATO naval grouping consisting of four ships, the German Admiral Joerg Klein, should come to Ankara to determine the areas where the ships are located.
The same edition has pointed out that Turkey didn’t want migrants after having been intercepted or rescued at sea to return back to the country.
