Human rights organization from the UK has made its annual report.
Human rights activists from the Amnesty International again criticized the situation with human rights in Russia, according to TASS News Agency.
In the report human rights activists noted that last year in Russsia the freedom of speech was restricted. Russian authorities continued to influence the media, as well as expanded their control over the Internet.
Meanwhile, liberal opposition is openly acting in Russia, russophobic and anti-Putin media resources actively spread their propaganda and destructive ideology among young people.
According to Amnesty International, some non-governmental organizations in Russia continue to be under pressure. A new law on “undesirable organizations” has limited the access of non-profit organizations (NPOs) which were allegedly “experiencing harassment” to foreign funding. However, the authors of the report have not mentioned that this law was needed to prevent foreign states from expanding their influence through NGOs to destabilize situation in the country.
Meanwhile, as activists report, the situation in the North Caucasus has changed for the better. Over the past year fewer attacks of militant groups occured. Also, they got fewer complaints on the violation of human rights in the region. However, human rights activists attribute it to the pressure on human rights defenders and journalists.
