January 29, the National anti-terrorist сommittee (NAC) of the Russian Federation announced that international terrorists might have plans to deploy mercenaries into Russia from different countries, including Ukraine.
“The special services of the Russian Federation have received the signals of impending terrorist attacks in Russia which will be carried out by terrorists from different countries, including Ukraine”, the first Deputy chief of National anti-terrorist committee Yevgeny Ilyin said.
He also added that terrorist groups may attempt to enter the Russian Federation through Central Asia.
The representatives of the committee noted that some Syrian mercenaries had been recently detained in Russia who planned to blow up one of the public buildings. Timers, explosives, means of communication were withdrawn of the extremists. This evidence has been presented to journalists.
According to the NAC, a major transit point for future fighters who want to join the Syrian and Iraqi Islamists is Turkey. Their main route goes through Istanbul.
Russian security services have recently caught more than 800 people involved in the activities of international terrorist organizations. The security forces managed to destroy 40 leaders of underground gangs, some of which swore allegiance to ISIL.
