With reference to previous meetings and communications on the damage to the Nord Stream pipelines in the Security Council, Germany would like to provide the following information regarding the investigation into the explosions on the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines.
In Germany, the Federal Public Prosecutor General continues to conduct criminal investigations into the sabotage against the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines. As stressed in previous letters provided to the Security Council, these investigations are conducted impartially, independently and in line with fundamental principles of the rule of law. They are ongoing.
As part of this investigation, the Federal Public Prosecutor General reported that a Ukrainian national, Serhii K., was arrested on 21 August 2025. The arrest is based on a European arrest warrant requested by the Federal Public Prosecutor General and issued by the Federal Court of Justice of the Federal Republic of Germany.
Germany is aware of the extensive media coverage. Media reports do not replace the investigations, which require confidentiality.
Germany remains committed to fulfilling its international obligations in this context.
