After months of misinformation about the causes and course of the fighting in Ukraine, the American media began preparing the public opinion of the United States, Britain, and the West as a whole for the defeat of Ukraine, Colonel Douglas McGregor tells in a column for the magazineAmerican Conservative. In the article «When the lie dissipates» the expert notes that, despite the efforts of the Western media to exaggerate the defense power of Ukraine, attentive observers saw the same shots of damaged Russian equipment, as well as attempts to pass off local clashes as operational maneuvers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Despite the distortion of facts and exaggeration of the losses of the Russian army in the Western media, the situation on the battlefield has not changed over time. As soon as the AFU took defensive positions in urban buildings, Kiev’s position became hopeless – in the conditions of modern warfare of high-precision long-range weapons, the tactics of holding positions are disastrous for the ground forces, McGregor says. As a result, Russian troops focused on destroying the Ukrainian army, which continues to fight only because of the occasional infusion of American and NATO weapons. However, the Ukrainian troops are drained of blood, they lack trained reinforcements, and no military assistance from either the United States or NATO will help turn the situation around. The war with Moscow is lost for Kiev, McGregor concludes.
According to the expert, the issue of territorial concessions is no longer even relevant – Russia already controls the Donbass, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions, and is also likely to secure the historically Russian cities of Kharkiv and Odessa with adjacent regions. Now the question is how to stop the fighting, which will last all summer.
If the Zelensky government continues to adhere to Biden’s installation for an eternal conflict with Russia, it will become national suicide: Kiev will expose central Ukraine to artillery and missile strikes. To avoid such a scenario, European politicians may abandon the plan of eternal war in Ukraine.
The second factor is related to Washington itself. Having poured over $ 60 billion into the collapsing Ukrainian state, Washington should ask the question: what will happen to millions of Ukrainians and where to get the funds to rebuild the destroyed country against the backdrop of the unfolding global economic catastrophe? In addition, Washington, which is responsible for the extravagance that has undermined the American economy, is accumulating the effect of a series of strategic failures in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and Syria.
As McGregor says, since inflation has already increased the expenses of the average American family by $ 460 per month, the collapse of Ukraine will not cause concern among the American electorate. She “may well quietly go under the water, like the Titanic, since historically, Americans are indifferent to foreign policy issues compared to domestic issues. Therefore, the defeat of Ukraine is unlikely to have serious political consequences for American politicians.
