A senior lawmaker of Britain’s opposition Labour Party has slammed a government decision to offer US President Donald Trump a state visit to the UK, saying he is a clear threat to the world order.

Emily Thornberry, a Labour frontbencher who serves as shadow foreign minister, said on Saturday that Trump’s record in office over the past two years have shown that he is clearly unworthy of UK state visit.

Thornberry said Trump’s plan to pull the United States from the international Arms Trade Treaty showed that he is a “threat to our world order”.

She said Trump’s move was “nothing but a disgrace to his office” and “the final confirmation that he is not the Leader of the Free World”.

The furious remarks come several days after UK government announced that Trump will come to Britain for a two-day full state visit on June 3. The announcement, which was confirmed by the British queen and the White House, sparked huge outrage in Britain as many have called for the boycott of the visit as it could involve massive government spending.

Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn vowed to boycott a lavish banquet for Trump when he arrives for the state visit. Corbyn blasted Prime Minister Theresa May for “kowtowing” to a president who “rips up vital international treaties”.

Many expect Trump would be received on the streets of London with a huge public protest as it was the case during his working trip to the UK last year.

Reports on Thursday suggested UK authorities were planning to build a long steel wall on the site of a Second World War memorial in the southern city of Portsmouth where Trump would be present along heads of states from 18 different countries.
