Trump truly ranks as one of the most unethical US presidents: Analyst

Published on

US President Donald Trump truly ranks as one of the most unethical presidents Americans have had in a long time, according to Myles Hoenig, an American political analyst and activist.

Hoenig, a former Green Party candidate for Congress, made the remarks in an interview with Press TV on Thursday while commenting on a statement by former US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson who warned that American democracy was threatened by a growing “crisis of ethics and integrity,” an apparent swipe at his former boss, President Trump.

“If our leaders seek to conceal the truth or we as people become accepting of alternative realities that are no longer grounded in facts, then we as American citizens are on a pathway to relinquishing our freedom,” Tillerson said on Wednesday in a graduation address at the Virginia Military Institute.

Tillerson did not mention Trump by name during his address to graduates at the military college in Lexington, Virginia.Tillerson, who was fired by Trump in March after little more than a year on the job, warned that a crisis involving truthfulness and integrity is threatening US democracy.

“Tillerson complaining of the lack of ethics and integrity is very much like Captain Renault of Casablanca being shocked that gambling is going on. Although his history is only with the Trump administration, what administration preceding Trump has truly been open and forthright with either the American public or the world? Even the no drama Obama administration was replete with lies, obfuscations and nefarious hidden agenda, especially in foreign policy,” Hoenig said.

“President Trump is doing an excellent job of exposing the American government for its lack of ethics and integrity. From yesterday calling immigrants ‘animals’ to previous days of overt lying about whether or not he paid off a porn star, Trump truly ranks as one of the most unethical presidents we’ve had in a long time, not that previous ones were not unethical,” he added.

“Even as a husband, irrespective of his role as president, he’s showing his true colors by not even appearing with his wife as she undergoes surgery. Past First Ladies have outshined their husbands, Jackie Kennedy, Betty Ford, for example. But none of the presidential spouses have been seen in such low regard for their character,” the activist said.

“Tillerson is correct in pointing out how we as a nation are rapidly degrading. In public we have Nazis running and winning primary races for the Republicans. We have the MeToo movement exposing what’s been endemic in American society for generations, that of misogyny at the highest levels of power. We have more and more police being exposed for their wanton murders of innocent people, not that it’s a new phenomenon, but simply being outed more in the public,” he stated.

“President Trump is a unique individual, but he also is the result of what America has to offer and for what America has been building up to. He is a crass, demagogic, narcissistic buffoon, elected by a people who chose that over known corruption and win at any cost politics,” the analyst concluded.
