Iran nuclear deal in tatters?
Less than three weeks to US President Donald Trump’s decision on the Iran nuclear deal, the issue has become the centerpiece of French President Emmanuel Macron’s White House visit. Trump must decide by May 12 whether to keep waiving anti-Iran sanctions lifted under the multilateral agreement he labels “the worst deal ever.” Trump has already threatened that the US will pull out of the deal unless the Europeans fix it. Unlike Trump, Macron is the staunchest proponent of the deal.
US demands Arab cash for Syria stay
US President Donald Trump once again surprised everyone by saying rich Arab countries should pay for the presence of American troops in Syria. Trump says the extremely wealthy countries of the Middle East should also send their own troops to Syria. Those countries, he said, would not last a week without America’s support. Trump did not name names, but it is already clear that he was pointing his finger to a close US ally, Saudi Arabia.
