The Syrian military has hit one Israeli F-16 warplane that attacked positions inside Syrian territory, with its two pilots ejecting out.

Syrian state TV cited a Syrian military official as saying that Israeli “aggression” had targeted an army base in central Syria.

Syrian aerial defense systems acquired a radar lock on an Israeli F-16 and fired a missile at it, hitting it and sending it down in flames and smoke.

The Israeli military confirmed that the warplane had gone down in northern Israel, and that the two pilots had been transferred to hospital.

The Israeli military claimed that it had attacked positions inside Syrian territory after it intercepted a drone launched from Syria on Saturday.

An image circulating on social media purportedly shows the crash site of an Israeli F-16 that attacked Syria and was shot down by the Syrian aerial defense, in northern Israel, on February 10, 2018.
