Moscow is ready for cooperation with Trump on Ukraine on mutually acceptable terms

Published on

Moscow is preparing to develop cooperation on Ukraine with the future US administration on the mutually acceptable conditions, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin told TASS on Monday.

The diplomat recalled that Russian President Vladimir Putin had a phone conversation with US President-elect Donald Trump a week ago. The Russian leader congratulated Trump on his victory noting “readiness to build partner dialogue with the new administration on the principles of equality, mutual respect and non-interference into each other’s domestic affairs,” the Kremlin press service said.

“Now we continue contacting with the current administration,” the diplomat said. “We are also already preparing to develop cooperation on Ukraine on the mutually acceptable conditions with US President-elect Donald Trump,” he said.

Trump was elected the 45th US President on November 8. He will take the Oath of Office on January 20.

It is inadvisable now to hold bilateral contacts of Moscow and Washington on settling the Ukrainian crisis, Karasin added.

Now it inadvisable to speak about bilateral contacts of Russia and the US on Ukraine,” the diplomat said. “Now the work is underway at the level of assistants to the leaders of the Normandy format countries. This includes exchanging various projects and phone conversations,” he said.
