Bokova noted that international conferences held in Russia had given a start to a number of vital UNESCO programs

Russia makes an active contribution to the work of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), UNESCO’s Director-General Irina Bokova said in her speech at a reception held at the UNESCO Paris-based headquarters on Tuesday for Eleonora Mitrofanova, Russia’s Permanent Representative to UNESCO, who has ended her term in office.

Bokova noted that international conferences held in Russia had given a start to a number of vital UNESCO programs.

“I would like to remind you specially of an international cultural forum devoted to UNESCO‘s 70th anniversary that was hosted in St. Petersburg last year,” Bokova said.

Bokova thanked Ambassador Mitrofanova for seven years of work as Russia’s Permanent Representative to UNESCO. She said that Mitrofanova had fulfilled her obligations of the head of the UNESCO Executive Board and the World Heritage Committee.

Mitrofanova, in turn, thanked UNESCO’s director-general and the heads of diplomatic missions for their credence given to her when she was elected to the high UNESCO posts and also for interaction in the solution of common tasks facing UNESCO members.

“Russia shares the UNESCO principles in full measure,” Mitrofanova stressed.
