The U.S. invasion of Libya and Iraq was a “catastrophic error,” the Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump said. He promises that in case he becomes President, the USA will abandon such steps in foreign policy.
While speaking to his supporters,Trump expressed hope that one day the U.S. and Russia would be able to combine their efforts in the fight against terrorist organization “Islamic state”. According to him, “common ground” with Russia in the fight against ISIS would be a great solution.
Trump also promised to hold an international conference dedicated to the fight against ISIS. In particular, he noted that “such countries as Israel, Jordan, Egypt and others will have to participate if they share the similar goals.”
In his speech Trump criticized the actions of the current and previous U.S. administration. According to him, the decision on military intervention in Libya and Iraq was a “catastrophic error” which led to a sharp increase in terrorism in the region. In addition, he accused President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in the deliberate destabilization of the U.S. and the creation of ISIS.
