“Russia appealed to the UN Secretariat with a request to check the information about Turkish fortifications erected on the Syrian territory,” Russia’s permanent representative to the UN, Vitaly Churkin, said at the meeting of the UN Security Council.

“We have information that Turkey is building long concrete fortifications in the Syrian territory near Turkish border. We are requesting the Secretariat to conduct neccesary investigation and report to the Security Council,” the Russian representative said on Wednesday.

Churkin demanded again from the UN Security Council to close the Syrian-Turkish border, as the border crossings, which, according to international decisions, had been set for the delivery of humanitarian aid, were used for criminal purposes. However, Churkin said that “irrefutable documentary evidence of what was happening on the Turkish border have been constantly ignored”.

Earlier, Russia has repeatedly provided the UN with data on illegal supplies with arms and ammunition from Turkey to the Syrian territory under control of “Islamic state”, as well as about the participation of Turkish companies in the supply of ISIS with components used for manufacturing improvised explosive devices.

“We are shocked by continued ignoring the role of Turkey in financial and human resource support of the activities of terrorists in Syria. All indirect references to information regarding the financing of ISIS, which was presented by the Russian side, was eliminated from the report,” Churkin said.
