“Israeli President Reuven Rivlin, who began on Wednesday his visit to Moscow, wants to get guarantees from Russia that the withdrawal of Russian troops from Syria will not lead to strengthening of Iran and the Lebanese movement “Hezbollah” which is fighting on the side of government forces, RIA Novosti source in the delegation of the head of the Jewish state said.
Rivlin will become the first foreign leader who will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin after Russia has started the withdrawal of its aviation group from Syria, declaring that the mission of a six-month campaign is successfully completed.
“Rivlin will ask the Russian side to provide assurance that the withdrawal of its forces from Syria will not be accompanied by strengthening of Iran and “Hezbollah“, the agency’s interlocutor says.
In Israel the President has mainly representative functions, the real power is concentrated in the hands of the Prime Minister. His visit to Moscow was prepared and conducted in coordination with Benjamin Netanyahu and Israeli Foreign Ministry.
In an interview with RIA Novosti Rivlin called Iran and Lebanese Shia movement “Hezbollah” a sorce of”regional instability“. “It is clear that there is a need to prevent Iran from spreading instability in the (Middle East) region. Otherwise, none of the solutions to the problems in the region will have a real chance for success,” he said.
