The Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has approved a new concept of development of the security and defense sector in the country. According to this concept, “Russia’s aggression is the main threat to the Ukrainian security”.

In the message published on the website of the Ukrainian president it is stated that in the medium term the central topic of the program will be Russia’s aggressive actions. Poroshenko also added that “Moscow is allegedly seeking to drain the Ukrainian economy and undermine political stability of the country”.

The new concept also implies the implementation of a number of measures aimed at introduction of NATO and EU standards.

On March 15, the Verkhovna Rada proposed to sever diplomatic relations with Russia. A draft resolution on the termination of diplomatic relations with Russia has been registered in the Ukrainian parliament.
