Russia is waiting for Turkey’s official apology for the downed Su-24. Punishment of guilty persons, compensation and regrets of the Turkish side are not enough, the Russian Ambassador in Ankara Andrey Karlov told RIA Novosti.

Russian-Turkish relations are experiencing a serious crisis after Turkish F-16 shot down the Russian bomber Su-24 on 24 November, 2015. The Russian President Vladimir Putin called it a “stab in the back delivered by accomplices of the terrorists”. After the incident, the President signed a decree on measures to better ensure national security and the special economic measures against Turkey.

“From the very beginning, Vladimir Putin announced what Turkey should have done to overcome a deep crisis in Russian-Turkish relations. We are waiting for an official apology from the Turkish side, punishment of guilty persons and compensation for the damage caused to our state. The statements of Turkey that they have regretted the incident are obviously not enough. So the next move should be done by the Turkish side,” Karlov said.

“If these conditions are not met, then there will be no opportunities for the normalization of Russian-Turkish relations,” the diplomat added.
