The US decision to lift economic sanctions on Iran represents a great “renaissance” in the development of relationships between the American and Iranian people, says a political commentator.
President Barack Obama signed an executive order Saturday lifting US economic sanctions on Iran. Obama’s move came after the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) verified that Iran “has fully implemented its required commitments.”
The US Treasury Department also said Saturday that it allows “the sale of US origin aircraft, parts and services exclusively for commercial passenger aviation to Iran; the import of Iranian-origin carpets and foodstuff; and certain activities conducted by foreign subsidiaries of US companies.”
“Well I think it’s actually wonderful news that the US Treasury has lifted the sanctions from economic and financial exchanges with Iran and if there is one thing that President Obama should be applauded for and that should go down as one of the great achievements of his presidency, since he really does not have many, but this one, executive order and this lifting of the sanctions against Iran is probably the greatest thing that he has ever done and he’ll ever do,” Scott Bennett told Press TV on Sunday.
“It signifies a wonderful renaissance in opening of the relationship between the United States people and the people of Iran,” Bennett added.
According to one of the documents the Treasury Department released on Saturday, “the following activities by non-US persons are no longer sanctionable: Financial and banking transactions with individuals and entities set out in Attachment 3 to Annex II of the JCPOA, including: the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) and other specified Iranian financial institutions; the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC), the Naftiran Intertrade Company (NICO), the National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC), and other specified individuals and entities.”
Bennett said the US move “is going to allow the American business class, the American entrepreneurial class, the American academics and writers and journalists and professors in schools and colleges to be included in a fresh reign of growth and moisture and informational exchanges with Iran.”
This shows that “America has nothing to be fearful of Iran about and soon they will see that the Israeli propaganda that has been constantly saying Iran is threatening Israel to destroy Israel and throw them into the sea, all of those lies and propaganda are also going to be exposed,” he added.
On Saturday, Tehran and the six world powers began the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) reached on July 14, 2015.
Under the JCPOA, limits are put on Iran’s nuclear activities in exchange for the removal of sanctions against the Islamic Republic.
The illegal sanctions on Iran had been imposed based on the unfounded accusation that Tehran is pursuing non-civilian objectives in its nuclear energy program. A claim that has always been rejected by Iran.
