US Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter said that the military policy of the USA and Russia were aimed at achieving different goals.
‘When we were discussing an agreement on aviation safety with the Russian Minister of War, we didn’t discussed the aspects of closer military cooperation between the two countries in Syria, as Russian military strikes are directed not primarily at the ISIS, but the Syrian opposition,’ Carter said during his speech in the Senate.
According to Carter, at the same time an agreement on military flights is not an example of cooperation with Russia, but the minister said that Washington didn’t not leave Moscow before the closed door and offered to join the US coalition in Syria.
The readiness of US to cooperate with Russia is nothing more than an illusion. You can recall the legend about the fact that the former US president Jimmy Carter delivered to the Russians American infrastructure data on ISIS. Without the permission of the White House, without the consent of the US State Department and without the approval of the US president Barack Obama Carter would not have given such information to Russia, if only because he is not an enemy of his country.
Nevertheless, it can be assumed that the US finally realized that they have no other option in Syria but to start to cooperate with Russia.
Otherwise, it will lead to the fact that Russia will recapture its strategic initiative not only in Syria but also in the entire Middle East.
The world needs the improvement of relations between Russia and the United States, and the decision on Syria could be a starting point here.
