“NATO has no plans to intervene in the situation in Syria”, – General Secretary Jens Stoltenberg stated, speaking at the plenary session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, held in Stavanger, Norway.
“There are no plans for the participation of NATO as an alliance in the Syrian conflict there. The members of the alliance is in the coalition led by the United States”, he said.
According to Stoltenberg, individual NATO members and partners play a key role in the fight against the terrorist group “Islamic state” on the territory of the Syria. “Even if the organization does not participate in the formal operations, capabilities, experience and interoperability of NATO forces play an important role and are very useful for the coalition,” Stoltenberg said.
At the same time Secretary General recalled that the United States had previously stated its readiness to cooperate with Iran, Russia and other countries in the search for a political solution to the Syrian crisis.
