Zaporozhye regional Council appealed to the President of Ukraine and the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian parliament) with a demand to provide Zaporozhye a special status in connection with the environmental situation in the region.
This decision is supported by 66 of 69 members of local Parliament. Zaporozhye regional Council supported the draft law named “the special legal regime of application of norms of Ukrainian legislation in the socio-economic, budgetary and other industries in the territories with complicated ecological situation”. The main idea of the bill was the transfer of the administrative and fiscal powers to local councils and comprehensive social support for residents of Zaporozhye region.
We are talking about the possibility of improving the socio-economic situation by redistributing tax revenues to save funds in local budgets. Saved funds should be allocated to help the medical, environmental and educational projects and social support of the population.
“The bill is aimed at the prosperity of the region and the whole Ukraine. In addition, it was part of the administrative-territorial reform, which was announced in Ukraine and can become an integral part of it,” – says the Deputy of regional Council, the head of the group “Social Zaporozhye” Elena Semenenko.
