Not so much time has passed after the mysterious death of Sandra Bland who was claimed to have committed suicide in the Texan jail. Just few hours later it was reported that one more Black citizen became a victim of police terror. This refers to a Memphis teenage Darrius Stewart who was shot to death by a police officer late Friday night.

At the beginning nothing bad or dangerous was expected to happen: the guy was just stopped while driving a car for a broken headlight. The ticket was issued and the officer let him go. Finally the police officer saw Darrius who was a Black passenger riding with the driver. Suddenly Darrius was suspected of having several warrants for his arrest (though of course there were no evident reasons to suspect him). At the end of the day the police tried to find any excuse in order to arrest and jail an innocent Black teenager.

While placing Darrius in the back seat of the police cruiser nobody explained him why he was forced to run his identification. But in the next moment something terrifying happened. A 19-year-old was claimed having kicked the door and attacking the officer. The police officer reacted immediately and … shot unarmed Darrius to end “the fight”.

However, the teen had reasons to be defensive while the actions of the police seemed totally going out of self-control. It is absolutely devastating and outrageous that the society stays indulgent and even tolerant to the horrible crimes committed by totalitarian and oppressive U.S. police. It seems to me that the Black communities should finally raise their activeness and take control of the police. Otherwise the police and White people overwhelmed by their hatred toward Black people will continue killing and jailing innocent Black despite their gender, age, social activity and status.
